Bathroom Facelift

August 10, 2009 at 7:28 am (Home Changes and Additions) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I got the shower curtain in the mail… and I love it!  I ran out the next day to get a new curtain rod that is curved (I hate the curtain touching me, and we hated the gold!).  I also picked up a couple white and black towels and a new rug.  The new toothbrush holder is actually an old jar.  What a huge difference these touches made!

Here is the before:

And here is the updated bathroom:

A bit more sophisticated?

Of course there are still changes we would like to make, but it was a great start for such a small budget!  With the new curved rod we are thinking about getting a second curtain, as it is a tight fit.  We would also like to paint the walls.  Next year we are getting a new shower, and would still like to try the corrugated metal idea.  Its getting there!  What do you think?

Ruffles For Me

August 5, 2009 at 2:52 pm (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

So craving this entire bathroom right now!  I love the industrial look mixed with very feminine touches.  I’m sure you can all tell from the rest of my home that my style isn’t usually very feminine, but in small amounts I think it can be a great touch.

So, when I found the budget bathroom remodel in the Country Living magazine I was swooning!  Unfortunately, I can’t post pictures from their site here.  So, here’s the link: http://www.countryliving.com/homes/makeovers/budget-bathroom-makeover-0609?click=main_sr .  I particularly fell in love with the ruffled shower curtain from Anthropologie.  But, $98 was quite a bit out of our shower curtain budget.  So, I started searching…

Here is the curtain from Anthropologie:

And here is what else I found:
Ruffles Curtain by Target: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/179-2733649-8695932?ASIN=B000HPTSE2&AFID=Froogle&LNM=B000HPTSE2|Ruffles_Shower_Curtain&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=B000HPTSE2&ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001

Very close, huh?  And both for under $30!!  I also found this one that I liked (but it was also $96):
In the end I went with Target.  It is on its way, so stay tuned to see how the cheaper version holds up in our newly styled bathroom!
P.S. We also loved a few other things from the Country Living article!  I am going to get the old fashioned looking toilet handle and possible try the corrugated metal as a backsplash to our new shower next year (also stay tuned for those updates! 🙂

Next Comes The Bathroom and Master Bedroom

December 12, 2008 at 7:09 pm (Our New House) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Here’s the bedroom.  It’s pretty small, but turned out well.  We would like to change these cutains in time (just like the rest of the house), but they can wait until last.  I think it turned out pretty cozy.  What do you think?
This is the bed. Matching side tables and lamps.

This is the dresser facing the bed. An old full length miror stands against the wall and an Asian keepsake box sits on the floor next to it.The dresser is vintage from when my mom was a little girl. She used the room set and then I did when I was little. The black strips are removable, and flip over to change colors. We painted one side of each black.

The hand is a vintage glove mold, the box is an old Kodak box, which we keep our momentos in. The mirror is an antique medicine cabinet, which we painted black and added a chendelier crystal for a pull.

The view from the door into the tiny bathroom. Its small but we managed to fit all of our things in there. It feels really bright and spa-ish because of the light blue walls and white curtains. We added a blue rug and blue curtain hooks.

The little shelf we hung across from the toilet with pretty perfume bottles on it. The only little "extra" that fits into the space!

Here’s the little bity bathroom.  Not a lot to tell, but we did manage to fit all of our things into the small space, and it even turned out pretty!
