Ruffles For Me

August 5, 2009 at 2:52 pm (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

So craving this entire bathroom right now!  I love the industrial look mixed with very feminine touches.  I’m sure you can all tell from the rest of my home that my style isn’t usually very feminine, but in small amounts I think it can be a great touch.

So, when I found the budget bathroom remodel in the Country Living magazine I was swooning!  Unfortunately, I can’t post pictures from their site here.  So, here’s the link: http://www.countryliving.com/homes/makeovers/budget-bathroom-makeover-0609?click=main_sr .  I particularly fell in love with the ruffled shower curtain from Anthropologie.  But, $98 was quite a bit out of our shower curtain budget.  So, I started searching…

Here is the curtain from Anthropologie:

And here is what else I found:
Ruffles Curtain by Target: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/179-2733649-8695932?ASIN=B000HPTSE2&AFID=Froogle&LNM=B000HPTSE2|Ruffles_Shower_Curtain&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=B000HPTSE2&ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001

Very close, huh?  And both for under $30!!  I also found this one that I liked (but it was also $96):
In the end I went with Target.  It is on its way, so stay tuned to see how the cheaper version holds up in our newly styled bathroom!
P.S. We also loved a few other things from the Country Living article!  I am going to get the old fashioned looking toilet handle and possible try the corrugated metal as a backsplash to our new shower next year (also stay tuned for those updates! 🙂

Sorry, I forgot to upload new pictures yesterday. But, today you get to see a lot of progress from the weekend! Here is the typewriter table that I showed you before.  It is now finished and detailed!

Once I finished the second coat of white spray paint I arranged cardboard scrap-booking stencils in the placement I liked.  I traced and filled the stencils with a paint pen.  These little guys work great!  I have used it on a couple of projects now and it always does the trick.  I think it is super cute and ready to be used!

Chair Love Again

March 20, 2009 at 11:31 am (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

This week I have been slow. But, it just hit me. My daily Apartment Therapy email just came in, and there is was, this amazing industial looking chair. I do not know much about the chair itself, but Atelier 154 in France is the shop where this baby can be found, and  the stylists of this blog that contains manygorgeous photos other photos are Elodie and Karine Kong. See them here: http://bodieandfou.blogspot.com .

Just simply beautiful.

P.S. I think that my weekly chair loves are so random and different because they tend to match my mood for that week (or day). I just noticed that as this chair even kind of matches the outfit I am wearing today. Casual, but classic, but also unique. Anyways…

Here is it in red:

I think these are just gorgeous!  I would love either color.  Or silver metal…

Oh, the possibilities!

A Little Industrial

February 2, 2009 at 3:34 pm (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

One of my big obsessions right now is industrial furniture and decor. I know that some of you are probably thinking industrial seems too cold and uninviting. But, mixed carefully with the warm colors and textures of your home, even industrial items can be cozy! I have been looking for the perfect industrial cabinet for our kitchen. Right now prices seem to be soring for these items on Ebay and other websites, but come auction season, I bet we can snatch one up for a deal!

One website that I found with some very funky items is http://www.ergstore.com. This site has some great inspiration for industrial funiture, but also has some pretty steep prices. Some of the items I am currently loving:

A 1920's-30's doctor's chair. I know, I love all crazy chairs, but this one would be a real conversation piece!

A 1940's wheeled cart. This would be great for a kitchen island!

A 1930's- 1940's theater light. This would repurpose as a great lamp.

Another site with some very amazing pieces is Get Back, Inc. at http://www.getbackinc.com. Some of my favorites there are:

A metal and glass medical cart. So what I am looking for!

Trends? Psh.

December 22, 2008 at 9:42 pm (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

It is the end of the year and every one starts rounding up the “best ofs”  lists.  I have been seeing a lot of lists of trend that people would either like to see more of or never see again.  The lists made me ponder.  I came to the conclusion that I do not care what is considered “trendy” or “in style”.  I like what I like and could care less what others think.  Actually, I think that I prefer things that were never in style (both clothing and home decor), because then it can never be considered out of style.  Also, if I like something, it is because it speaks to me.  It shouldn’t matter what list it is on.  I change my mind all the time, but not based upon what other people believe is “cool”.  I, personally, never fit into one category anyways, because I mix pieces from all different styles.  There should be no rules when it comes to your own tastes and your own home.  If you truly love it, go for it.

Whew.  With that said, I will step off of my soap box and show you all a visual list of the things that I have loved this year.  Not because they are trends or not, but because that was what was speaking to me this year.  I hope some one can find this inspirational, but in no way am I saying go out there and copy every picture.  (Would that make it a “trend”?)  Here goes:

1. The first thing that I have loved this year is collections.  They can be utilitarian or completely useless. To me, collections can be like art.  Some people think that if objects don’t function, they just sit there taking up space, but I think they can be beautiful.  Here is a group of cameras and a small group of stereos.

2.  This brings me to my number two- bright colored walls.  I love this blue and I also love a great red accent wall. Some of my fav online finds:

3.  This is a little strange for me, but this year I have love all clear, or acrylic, furniture.  There are so many great pictures, but here is a gllimpse of one that I am wanting:

This one even contrasts well with the cabin decor. http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/la/look/look-modern-cabin-071787

4.  No matter what anyone says, I love love love both empty frames and leaning frames.  I lean frames as opposed to hanging them all the time.  Against a wall, on a desk, on the floor…  Just a couple examples:

5.  I love alll things industrial in the home.  There have been some very good examples recently.  I wish I could do a little bit more of this style in my home.  Some cool pieces:

6.  I am loving repurposed decor and furniture.  I have always been a fan of old, vintage, or antique items, but it more recently has occured to me how great it can be to repurpose some items into new things in the home.  Some of my favrite ideas below:

 7.  I am also a fan of decorating in black and white.  Don’t get me wrong, I love punches of color, but black and white can make a huge statment and go with so many additional colors.  Some great black and white pictures:
