A Stumper

We have a question for any of you creative minds out there.  Our dog bowl and food situation is currently in need of fixing.  I am one of those hiders.  Everything should have a place and be kept out of site.  So, this is, of course, driving me nuts.

Currently, there is a gap between our refrigerator and our stove.  The landlord would like to someday add another cupboard in between, which I can’t argue with because it would also give us more counter space (always good).  But, for the time being, we are using the gap as a space for a mat and the dog’s food and water bowls.  This I don’t mind too much;  the bowls are out of the way and accessible.  The real problem is what to do with the food bag.  We have a little drawer specifically for the dog, which holds his bones, treats, and brushes, etc.  We were buying small bags of food that would fit in the drawer, but they are a waste of money.  Now that we have upgraded to the large bag, we do not know where to keep it.

Not so funny story:  I thought I would smartly store it behind the door to the basement steps.  Then last night it came crashing down, and what sounded like loud rain was the entire giant bag of dog food pouring down the stairs!

Here is the current situation:

Does anyone out there have a better looking solution?  I can’t wait to get the ugliness hidden!  🙂

Romeo says hi and thanks for any help!

Name That Chair

January 5, 2009 at 12:45 pm (Home Changes and Additions) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I know I have posted pictures of this chair before, but I am still wondering. I saw this lonely little chair on the side of the road just waiting for the garbage man about a month ago (yes, the side of the road). I went straight home and begged Tony to go nab it for me. I mean the poor thing is adorable and in desperate need of saving. So, being the amazing and understanding guy Tony is, he drove his truck over to the house where I spied the chair and scooped it up.

When we got it home, we realized there wasn’t a thing wrong with it. It wasn’t broken, stained, or even scratched. It looked as though some one had owned it since it’s original day and finally used it in a garage or shop, as it was a bit dirty. They must have thought it wasn’t new enough looking to clean up. Well, I have news for these people. This chair is amazing. I scrubbed it with my handy dandy Magic Eraser (amazing also by the way!). And, the thing was soon good as new.

We now have the perfect addition to our pocket office. But, we were still wondering what kind of chair this is exactly. It is unmarked, but looks mid-cenury to me. I am no expert, but was guessing 50’s or 60’s. If any of you out there have seen another one of these, or have any info, please let us know!

Even if we never solve the mystery, we now have this truly cute chair all for our own!

New Little Project

December 31, 2008 at 3:32 pm (Projects) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I love finding odds and ends to fix up, remodel, or work on that I can then add to our home.  These little projetcs are fun for me and keep me busy.  This new task is a stool from my grandmother.  Its not new, not antique, not anything special really.  I almost truned it down.  But, she said that it opened up.  That caught my interest.  Then, she suggested that maybe I could keep some interesting photos in it.  BINGO!  I snatched it up in a hurry.  I love a bit of unexpected, and her idea of putting snapshots in the stool was perfect.  I plan to recover the top with some funky material.  I’m not sure if I will paint it yet.  Then I will add some old, random photos to the inside for company to explore.  Cute!  Any suggestions on print or paint?  Let me know what you think!

So much potential...

So much potential...

Here’s A Question…

Here is the desk and the huge wall. The one picture is hung, but the other two are waiting to be framed.

Here is the desk and the huge wall. The one picture is hung, but the other two are waiting to be framed.

We are stumped.  We thought we had a brilliant idea for a cute and unique landing strip.  But, it doesn’t seem to be working.  When I was lilttle my grandpa had found my brother and I these little antique school desks.  Tony and I thought we could use my old desk as the landing strip.  The lid opens and it could hold all of our chnage, keys, mail, etc.  We put the desk on the empty wall near our back door.  But, suddenly the desk looked dwarfed.  I was hoping to find and old mail sorter or library card catalog to put there as well, but that is still a hunt.  We hung the vintage ad above the desk, which does add a pop of color.  I also have two other authentic vintage fruit labels to frame and hang there as well.  But, what about the desk?  Should we scrap the idea?  Or is it just missing something?  Hmm…
