Bedside Inspiration

August 25, 2011 at 10:34 am (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I came across this bedside photo on Apartment Therapy and was immediately in love with the bright pops of yellow.  The photo comes from the house tour of Kyle and Erin’s home.

So bright and cheery and fun…

I especially love the yellow tray and am now thinking about doing something similar.  With the new house finally starting to come together I am able to begin thinking about new ideas and projects to make the place special.  I do have some sneak peak photos coming soon for you all! 😉

My Perfect Bedroom

July 12, 2011 at 2:09 pm (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

On Apartment Therapy today I saw this gorgeous black and white chair by Ethan Allen.  First I drooled (we all know how much I love black and white furnishings, right?) and then I headed over to the Ethan Allen website to check out their new lines.

More drolling ensued.  Before long I had picked out what my perfect bedroom in the new house should look like.

The master bedroom in our new 1891 house is through a walk-through closet (very cool!) and is then sunken below a couple of steps.  There are raw beams overhead, and even a little stained glass window on the wall with a peak.  Yes, its very neat.

So, this Ethan Allen room that I spotted had my mind combining my love of shiny black furniture, black and white prints, and raw, rustic wood features.  Here she is:

Gorgeous, no?  Actually, the Ethan Allen website had a ton of beautiful images, ideas, and products! Check out more of the line here: http://www.ethanallen.com/shop_by_room/bedrooms

(No, I’m not paid or sponsored in any way by Ethan Allen.  Although maybe I should be, becuase I’m in love! 🙂

A New Headboard

April 15, 2009 at 8:18 am (Home Changes and Additions, Projects) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I think this was Tony’s favorite project yet!  My mom had an old brass headboard for a king size bed.  She was going to throw it out, so I snatched it right up.  After a coat of primer and a couple coats of black paint…

He was so excited last night after we got it hung that he said the bedroom looks like a hotel now.  I take that as a compliment!  I was afraid that the black would be too much next to the black art above, but I think it worked out well.  Always a work in progress…

I think the pups approve too!

Little Bit Of Chair Love

March 25, 2009 at 7:22 am (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I found this cute chair the other day on Design*Sponge in Jack and Lulu’s home sneak peak.  The curvy lines on this chair match the bech seat I was loving the other day!  The picture isn’t directly of the chair, but it’s right in front of the mirror here:

I want it for my bedroom! 🙂

The Little Things

January 8, 2009 at 9:52 am (Home Changes and Additions) (, , , , , , , , , , )

We have two new little additions to our bedroom.  First, Tony’s mom passed along a red glass from his great grandmother.  The heirloom has been in their family for many years and she wanted us to have it.  The beautiful glass has found a new home in our bedroom on the vanity.  The second is some old marquee letters from a vintage highway sign.  We found a T and a J, and hung them on the wall in the entry to the bedroom.  Its the little things that really give personality to a space.

The photo doesn't do it justice, but the glass is a ruby red.

They look a little lonely, so they might not stay exacly like this for long, but I do think they are cute.

Organized Jewelry

January 8, 2009 at 9:11 am (Home Changes and Additions) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Last night I decided that I had had enough digging around for jewelry in the mornings.  Or, even worse, just not wearing my fun jewelry because it was too hard to find.  So, I organized the vintage medicine cabinet we have hung above our dresser in the bedroom.  I took a few old little shot glasses and dishes and a short candle holder and arranged some of my favorite costume jewelry.  Now everything is visible and arranged neatly.  And, the inside of the cabinet looks so pretty!

Here is the outside of the medicine cabinet. I know you have seen this before, but this is a good angle of the chandelier crystal I used as a pull.

I found these little jars and glasses at the local Salvation Army for about 25cents.

The Little Red Stool

December 17, 2008 at 3:30 pm (Projects) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Being cooped up in the warm house yesterday as the snow blew outside, I had time to finish up a few projects.  One was the stool that I posted about yesterday.  It started out green and dirty, but now is a beautiful red.  I’m not sure where I’m going to use it yet.  I thought it would look cute in the kitchen, but when Tony brought it up the stairs for me, it struck me that it might make the perfect odd edition in our bedroom.  Hmmm…

It looks perfect in red.

Next Comes The Bathroom and Master Bedroom

December 12, 2008 at 7:09 pm (Our New House) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Here’s the bedroom.  It’s pretty small, but turned out well.  We would like to change these cutains in time (just like the rest of the house), but they can wait until last.  I think it turned out pretty cozy.  What do you think?
This is the bed. Matching side tables and lamps.

This is the dresser facing the bed. An old full length miror stands against the wall and an Asian keepsake box sits on the floor next to it.The dresser is vintage from when my mom was a little girl. She used the room set and then I did when I was little. The black strips are removable, and flip over to change colors. We painted one side of each black.

The view from the door into the tiny bathroom. Its small but we managed to fit all of our things in there. It feels really bright and spa-ish because of the light blue walls and white curtains. We added a blue rug and blue curtain hooks.

The little shelf we hung across from the toilet with pretty perfume bottles on it. The only little "extra" that fits into the space!
