A Special Gift

December 16, 2009 at 9:50 am (Tid Bits) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Tony gave me this special little Christmas gift early…

A Michael Jackson poster for my office!

It says, “If you enter this world knowing you are loved and you leave this world knowing the same, then everything that happens in between can be dealt with,” Michael Jackson.

Isn’t that so sweet of him?  And a great addition to my (kinda drab) office! There is a small shelf project in the works to hold some things in the office that will go under the Keep Calm poster, so don’t worry, the space will fill in even better.  And, stay tuned!

Snow!

December 10, 2009 at 4:19 pm (Tid Bits) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , )

It’s that time of year again! Snow! Yesterday was a snow day for me.  The office was closed, so I was paid to stay home, wrap Christmas presents, watch White Christmas, and drink hot chocolate!  Well, I did some boring chores, too.  Today it’s back to work, and it is freeezing outside!  Here is a quick snapshot of my new snow boots to keep me warm and dry when visiting clients, and one of my drive to see a client today.  Those country roads can be soo pretty (and annoyingly slippery!)

Beautiful!

A Bit of Rustic

December 10, 2009 at 11:21 am (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I happened upon this home, home of Danish designer, Henrik Busk, over at Poppytalk today.  I’m really loving the rustic feel of the floors and walls mixed with whites.  My kind of place.

Shoe Dreaming

December 4, 2009 at 1:27 pm (Tid Bits) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

Today I am shoe dreaming.  Actually most of them are boots.  But, everywhere I turn I’m drooling over another pair of kicks.  Check out these gorgeous boots:

I love them both!  I’m in trouble this season… 🙂

Birthday and Decor!

December 2, 2009 at 12:11 pm (Projects, Tid Bits) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

My birthday was last week!

I got so many awesome gifts, so here is just a sneak peek:

Lots of awesome clothes!

Funky jewelry to go with...

And gorgeous diamond earrings! Can you guess who they are from? (Yes, I have still not perfected photos of jewelry!)

My brother also got me the book, “The Magoc of Writing: How to Write and Publish the Book that is Inside You,” by Linda J. Falkner.  So, now I have another project I’m working on 😉

Among many great gifts from family and friends, I also got a few decor related things to keep my occupied in the house for a while.  Check out this funky antique alligator trunk:

Is that not totally rad?!

I had drooled over this trunk earlier this fall while browsing antiques.  Sweet, eh?

Thanks everybody!  Now I have some fun projects to play with!

Our Halloween (Just A Bit Late)

November 24, 2009 at 4:58 pm (Seasonal Decor, Tid Bits) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

Since I have been gone Halloween has come and gone.  But, I thought I would just update you all on our festive Halloween.

I hung Indian Corn on the door, a basket of gourds on the table, and fall flowers in vase.  I even stuck bloody handprints to a window and hung a giant spider in the living room.  Yes, I love this time of year.  Here was a new addition (that we love!) for our porch:

Spooky, right?!

We also carved pumpkins for the front steps.  The pictures were mostly fuzzy, but here is a lit up shot of my witch:

And, of course, I dressed up.  I was a gangster.  Here my mom (the devil) and I are getting ready to go out.  (Tony took the picture since he refused to participate in dressing up 🙂

I hope your Halloweens were as fun and festive as ours!

Where Have I Been?

November 24, 2009 at 10:16 am (Tid Bits) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

So, I was missing for quite some time.  Where was I?  What was I doing?  Here is a mini-peak into my little break.

Here we are all relaxing in our yard with a bonfire this fall.

Very exciting?!  Basically, I was on a much needed relaxation break.  What were you all up to??

An Office Project Finished

November 23, 2009 at 11:42 am (Projects) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

As I said before, I have recently started a new job.  With that has come a new, but bland, office.  So, I got to work.  The first project I have completed is a table for the office.  I found this ugly guy with a paper top for a couple of dollars at the thrift store:

I started by sanding the wood legs and sides a bit and then painting them black.  I then used scrapbook paper on the top.  I taped the paper down, starting with a full sheet in the very middle of the table.  When the sheets were lined up nicely, I used ModPodge to cover the sheets, using a foam brush.  I did several coats of this, drying in between.

Black and white, of course!

One thing I learned from using the ModPodge was that it makes the paper wet, so at first it will bubble up.  This smooths out as it dries.  But, I did make the mistake of lining the paper sheets up perfectly edge to edge.  Lining them up with a bit of overlap would have prevented the sheets from moving as they dried.  I do have a few tiny spots where there are gaps between the paper now.  I learned! 🙂
