Guest/Play Room Transformation

When we moved in a few years ago the rooms were all boring and ugly…

Then we painted and added some fun flair to make this one a bright teen room…

Then, the teen grew up and moved out, so we had an empty space. 💡 We had an idea! A play room. But also make it a guest room, so that we still have a space for company to sleep…

And so the room became a guest/play room.

Paint again. Tone down those walls. New floors. New furniture. Make it fun, but grown up enough for guests… viola!

We went gray on the walls, but a touch darker than normal since we have lots of sunshine in here. We did snap in wood floor, since they are durable and easy to clean. Then the fun part…

We added a wall mural from PhotoWall! What better way to keep it fun for play and interesting but adult for guests?!

How cool is that?! It was actually super easy to install, just wallpaper in vertical strips, and it even comes with the paste. The boys are in LOVE with their new space!

You can head to PhotoWall too and use code ‘makemineeclectic25’ for 25% off any of their art, canvases, or wallpapers!

Next we will add furniture, so stay tuned…

Is It An Entryway or a Mudroom?

September 25, 2018 at 2:25 am (Uncategorized)

Do you call your door area an entryway or a mudroom? Or a foyer? Sometimes we even just call it “by the backdoor” 😝. For us, this is one of the most heavily used areas of our home. But it is ug-ly. Think 70’s dark faux wood paneling floor to ceiling. Yeah. So this area has been on my re-do-it radar since we moved. I hope to at least paint the paneling, if not possibly remove it all someday. There is even a little mudroom sink next to the closet. Handy if you are a farmer, but we aren’t farmers. So I plan to remove it and make the closet double it’s current width. The extra cost storage will be much appreciated. And here I’m thinking sliding barn door! But all of this is way ahead of where I’m at today. I just wanted some coat hooks. That’s it, simple request. They had 2. Two measly hooks. They were skinny, pokey, ugly little hooks, that weren’t even hung at the same height. Starting to envision just how ugly? So we made a coat rack. Bear with me, I know the paneling is still ugly! Have some vision, and try to focus on the coat rack!

Isn’t that pretty? Just the rack here. We found a stack of nice barn boards in the back barn (there are several outbuildings on this property, one cute little guy that even used to be a milk house for selling milk- think “she shed” in the future!) We cut the board to the right width and added a sealing wax. This darkened it and brought out the rustic-ness (totally a word) without making it shiny. Then I found some antique hooks hung all around the walls of a closet room (which I plan to be a second bathrom) upstairs. We heated the hooks up on the stove, in hopes of burning off any extra rust so that they wouldn’t run anything off onto the coats, but helped me avoid painting them a fresh black, which seemed to “new” for this project. We picked 5 hooks, one for each family member. You get 2 necessary items hung, ie one coat and one bag, or whatever. The rest goes into the closet. Mama hates clutter. And this is what we ended up with.

Someone (Jason) hung it without asking me, so it’s a bit higher than I planned. I wanted kids to be able 5o hang their own things up. But, we added Brantley’s little step stool to the wall, and viola, Jason’s off the hook.

Here’s what the whole half of the mudroom (or entryway?) Looks like.

Not exciting. Yet. I do think it will be much better in white with a pretty light fixture, a bit of color, maybe something other than brown. But the coat rack, what do you think of that mini project?

Little Key Project

April 28, 2015 at 10:58 am (Uncategorized)

I love a good project. Even more so, I love a good quick project. So when I saw a photo on Pinterest of old keys bent into hooks I got an idea…

I love keys and have been collecting random ones since I was a kid. My oh-so-amazing man fired and bent 8 keys for me. He also had a piece of pine wood with bark. He burnt the wood and then helped me hang the keys and seal the whole thing. Now we have a rack for hanging all of our many keys! It turned out so cute and rustic!

What do you think? I love it!

Our New Old Curio Cabinet

September 14, 2014 at 10:54 am (Uncategorized)

I wish I had taken a before picture. I know, I seem to say that all 5 he time, but really. I’m kicking myself. But, picture dark, oudated, and plain bland.  The little corner curio cabinet was fake wood, but had potential. So, here she is after paint and new knobs.

So, phone photos aren’t the best. This quick drive-by post doesn’t do the new cabinet justice really. But, you get the idea. And, you know that I am still here, I still do projects, and I remember you, but I’m just busy. 🙂  What do you think?

Little Side Table Project

June 17, 2013 at 6:41 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Hi all!  I want to share some wedding projects and some other big news very soon, but for today I wanted to stop by with a quick project.

We found this little side table at a garage sale for .50 cents.  Yup, .50 cents.

Shabby, yes, a bit.  But, I loved the round shape and primitive pedestal.  So, I patched, sanded and painted.  I picked a burgundy-ish color and then I stenciled my favorite paisley on the top in silver.  I thought this was a bit modern to mix with this little table.  I roughed up the edges and faded out the design on the top.  I think it turned out really cute!

What do you think?  Well, this little guy already found a new happy home 🙂
