Guest/Play Room Transformation

March 2, 2021 at 7:15 am (Family Stuff, Home Changes and Additions, Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

When we moved in a few years ago the rooms were all boring and ugly…

Then we painted and added some fun flair to make this one a bright teen room…

Then, the teen grew up and moved out, so we had an empty space. 💡 We had an idea! A play room. But also make it a guest room, so that we still have a space for company to sleep…

And so the room became a guest/play room.

Paint again. Tone down those walls. New floors. New furniture. Make it fun, but grown up enough for guests… viola!

We went gray on the walls, but a touch darker than normal since we have lots of sunshine in here. We did snap in wood floor, since they are durable and easy to clean. Then the fun part…

We added a wall mural from PhotoWall! What better way to keep it fun for play and interesting but adult for guests?!

How cool is that?! It was actually super easy to install, just wallpaper in vertical strips, and it even comes with the paste. The boys are in LOVE with their new space!

You can head to PhotoWall too and use code ‘makemineeclectic25’ for 25% off any of their art, canvases, or wallpapers!

Next we will add furniture, so stay tuned…

The Perfect Mix

April 19, 2012 at 8:58 am (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I have been keeping a notebook of ideas for each room in the house. Lately, Pinterest has made list making for these ideas so much easier! Here are some rooms that are, to me, the perfect mix!

Here is a gorgeous dining room. I love the cow hide rug layered over a larger, more simple one. I also love that striped settee!

I loved this office. I have been known to fall for over the top glam one minute and then over the top rustic the next, but this is the perfect mix. Perfect.

Another dining room with the perfect mix of an awesome rustic table and beautiful pink wallpaper.

Here is a great living room with an amazing sofa!

I am smitten with this window seat. I could nap there.

Hope these rooms bring you some inspiration too!

DIY Serving Tray

April 3, 2012 at 8:34 am (Projects) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

This has been on my to-do list since we moved it. Or maybe even before. But it became even more urgent when we bought the new couch with an ottoman. Now I have no room for a coffee table, but that means nowhere safe to put drinks and essentials. However, the previous owners left us lots of junk in the barns, so this one was a snap.

Gross old window uncovered in a heap in the barn:

Add some barn door hardware as handles:

The window was in surprisingly great shape once it was cleaned up, so I added a little paint and distressed the edges, added the hardware, and then used an Uppercase Living decal I had packed away on the glass. (I had minor trouble with the decal, so it may get a new one in the future. Talk about frustration!) And here you have our new serving tray:

Just finished this little guy and we already love it. We think it looks cute in that rustic way, but is also super handy!

Well, what do you think? We are happy with the way this quick and easy project came out! Have you ever tried anything like this?

Evolving Living Room

January 26, 2012 at 1:54 pm (Home Changes and Additions) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

We finally have some progress!  No, the walls are not painted.  Still peach.  But, the little love seat has been replaced with a large L shaped sectional couch!! This makes the room so much more cozy and functional for us.  Now I just can’t wait to entertain.  And paint!

Here is the view into the living room from the doorway.  The sectional is a perfect suede in a neutral cream color.  The button tufting at least makes the more modern shape a bit more traditional.  We all know I love button tufting, right?

What do you think?  Better, no? When the walls are a nice gray I think things will come together even more.  I am also working on making a tray for the ottoman, because we are now not using the old coffee table.  I will update when I get that brainstorm finished!

Living Room Brainstorming

December 22, 2011 at 10:07 am (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I’ve said it before, we hate our living room couch.  We have a small living room, but would like it to work better for us. So, what do we do when a friend is wanting to get rid of an almost new L shaped sectional in cream? Snatch it up!

It looks huge and things are in disarray right now, but it is so comfy, and much more what we were wanting for a more functional room.  A sectional seems more modern than our house, but this one combines my love for tufting too! So, now I have been on the hunt for living room inspiration before making any decisions about ours.  Enjoy my eclectic collection of musings…

I love the horse photo in this one. And, it’s a sectional.

This one is an L shaped couch and a smaller room like ours.

I love the gray of this couch. They are using a coffee table and the ottoman is separate for more seating.  We are considering doing away with our coffee table and using a large tray on the ottoman.  Hm?

Not a sectional, but I love a Chesterfield. Always inspiring. lol

I loved the patterned pillows in this living room.  I am also digging the idea of the wall mounted lamps.  We lack floor space and this might do the trick!

Another gray sectional, and I loved the mix of fun pillows!

Bright colors and a rustic coffee table.

Not exactly our style room, but I love the big coffee table and even the tweed on the couch!

Another room with no sectional, but how pretty!? I love everything about this one.

The next few rustic rooms are for Jeremy 😉

I love the mix in this room.  The more subtle antlers, and especially the tufted chair!!

This one has the Chesterfield for me and the antler chandelier for Jeremy!

Any more ideas? Let us know! And soon I will show you progress on our room!

Inspiring Chair Love

November 18, 2011 at 9:55 am (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I have not posted a “Chair Love” post in a while, so, I thought I would show a few that have caught my eye lately.  All are different and unique, and inspiring!

I love the updated print on the old chair.  It goes well with the natural wood.  I also love the sheepskin!

So bright and fun! And in this case the orange painted wood looks wonderful!

Right now I am craving anything tufted! Especially when the tufting is on soft, aged leather! MMM

It’s snowing here today, but this chair has me thinking about sun porches and nice weather!

I have also been craving fresh antique couches like this one, as we hate our couch. lol.  Check out the link, because the have a bunch of awesome refinished chairs!

And, last but not least, a chair just for Jeremy…

Hope you are inspired! 🙂

The wheels in my head are spinning, the ideas churning around.  I said before that I have some big projects in the works, and when I said big I actually meant HUGE.  Here is a bit of the funky inspiration that is going on right now.  Soon I will hopefully be able to let you all know what is going on around here!

I love the shape of this sofa and the bold pattern is growing on me.  Just wait until I can tell you why I am thinking about buying this baby!
