Gorgeous Wedding Decor!

We did it! We got hitched! And it only took us 9 years!

But 9 years later, and we have a home and a family, and the wedding budget was small. So, I’m here to share a few things we did to throw a gorgeous wedding, but on a budget!

First, if you are a planner like me, buy an actual planner and skip hiring one. I used a basic wedding planner from Amazon and tracked everything myself. It’s definitely doable!

Next, buy what you can, don’t rent, and resell when you are done. It was actually cheaper to buy tablecloths and runners than it was to rent them!

Third, pick a venue you like, but if you find a budget friendly option, don’t worry if it needs a little boost to get wedding gorgeous! I used Rent My Wedding and transformed our very inexpensive, albeit dated and bland venue to a gorgeous spot, on a budget!

Before:

Blah, drab, dated. But cheap. Enter Rent My Wedding.

We used white drape walls and uplighting to make the glow. We also added the custom monogram behind our table. It all turned our venue into our rustic glam dream spot!

The whole rental process was super simple too. It can all be chosen and rented online, and customer service is super helpful! Everything is shipped right to you. The directions made it all very easy to assemble and decorate. Then you pack in back up and ship back with the included labels. We even a scheduled a shipping pick up! Boom. We highly recommend Rent My Wedding!

Xx,

Jess

These have been a very busy past few weeks. Work, work, work, wedding, wedding, wedding. Time for projects? Maybe a little. I came across this gorgeous blue velvet chair on Pinterest this morning during my coffee. This office looks gorgeous and I think I’d be much more productive in a space like this, just in case anyone wants to help me out!

Aaaah, peace. Even while working so hard! Have a great day everyone! 🙂

Spring Chair Love, And A Break

March 20, 2012 at 8:14 am (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Spring is here! I am so excited, and my yard proves it! I have been working every spare moment in the yard and rock gardens to start fixing some of the weed-y damage left by the previous owners. Not always fun, but it is rewarding.

I am taking this free moment to gaze longingly at some relaxing pictures, like this one of the gorgeous chair and peaceful bathroom! Let me tell you what all has been keeping me so busy! To start, we got chickens! Oh, and there is my new job, getting ready for some painting and other home and yard projects, and planning the WEDDING! Yes, we are finally in full planing mode! It has been keeping me BUSY!! We are so excited, but definitely get no breaks as of late!

Also, the onset of spring and this gorgeous weather has reminded me that there is no place I’d rather be! No matter what anyone else thinks my life should be, I accomplished my dream, and we are living it right here. That is what keeps me going each day when there is so much to be done. Just thought I’d share! Now enjoy this lovely room, and check back soon for more projects around our place! 🙂

My Perfect Bedroom

July 12, 2011 at 2:09 pm (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

On Apartment Therapy today I saw this gorgeous black and white chair by Ethan Allen.  First I drooled (we all know how much I love black and white furnishings, right?) and then I headed over to the Ethan Allen website to check out their new lines.

More drolling ensued.  Before long I had picked out what my perfect bedroom in the new house should look like.

The master bedroom in our new 1891 house is through a walk-through closet (very cool!) and is then sunken below a couple of steps.  There are raw beams overhead, and even a little stained glass window on the wall with a peak.  Yes, its very neat.

So, this Ethan Allen room that I spotted had my mind combining my love of shiny black furniture, black and white prints, and raw, rustic wood features.  Here she is:

Gorgeous, no?  Actually, the Ethan Allen website had a ton of beautiful images, ideas, and products! Check out more of the line here: http://www.ethanallen.com/shop_by_room/bedrooms

(No, I’m not paid or sponsored in any way by Ethan Allen.  Although maybe I should be, becuase I’m in love! 🙂

Bright, Gorgeous Room

June 30, 2011 at 10:32 am (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I’m a black and white person.  Always have been.  Just recently I have started to expand my decor colors.  I still tend to shy away from bold colors, but when I see a room so bright and gorgeous, there are times that I just can’t help myself!

Two bright colors in one little space and it still works beautifully!  And, it doesn’t even scare me off in the slightest!  Actually, I feel inspired by this room.  Check out the whole lovely home tour here on Apartment Therapy:  http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/la/elizabeths-colorful-and-imaginative-house-house-tour-146539

Desire to Inspire recently featured the works of Claire Larritt-Evans, the ultra talented designer behind Fenton & Fenton.  I found every single image inspiring! This was my favorite:

An Inspiring Blog

May 31, 2011 at 1:03 pm (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

“Ultimately your home is so much more than just a decor style, it’s a life style,” as said by The Paris Apartment (a new favorite blog.)

Her quote comes from a clip of her book. I find inspiration not only in her quote and the rest of the clip of the book, but also in each and every post and photo she posts.  Check out these gorgeous rooms and then check out her blog here:  www.parisapartment.wordpress.com

Wabi Sabi

February 24, 2009 at 3:40 pm (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Wikipedia defines wabi sabi as the Japanese world view centered on the acceptance of transience.  Sometimes it is also described as beauty that is imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete.  I think a good description of this is finding the prefect ion in imperfection. I love the concept of wabi sabi and try to incorporate it into my home all the time. I truly do believe that things can grow more beautiful over time. Maybe its the fact that a well worn item looks well loved. I love how these items have a past, a history. New furnishings from some big box store are often not very well made and are also mass-produced. Meaning that too many of these items in your home and things might look exactly like some one else’s home. This to me is boring. Age and imperfections add interest. So, although we do mix modern items in with our antiques and used finds, we do have some wabi sabi pieces in our home. I thought I would show you a few of our currently well-loved pieces.

This is our little dining table. It is very old and imperfect, but, it has so much character and personality. Even the chairs are worn-in, and mismatched!
