Tid Bits and Projects

July 21, 2009 at 11:02 am (Projects, Tid Bits) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

It seems like I havebeen so busy around here… but where is my progress?  I have so my projects currently on my plate, and have been working on them, really!  But, none are officially completed yet.  So, I thought I would just fill you in on some of the tib bits going on around here and a few of the before shots of some current projects.

Some awesome flowers have sprouted up in the back yard.  I forgot that I had planted them there in the spring!  I love lillies, any kind, especially orange ones!

We are also still taking care of Gillian, the salamander.  He is still in the rubber tote sitting on the table, grossing everyone out.  But, we are searching for a small tank to keep him in.  In this picture he is right next to the end of the leaf.  Those two black dots are his eyes; he is burrowed in the dirt.

The dogs made a nice mess for me to clean up this morning.  They decided that the five minutes they were left alone in the yard was just long enough to dig for moles.  Here they are trying to look all innocent and quite muddy!  Also check out Marley’s new collar.  She thinks she’s tough!

Chair Love Inspiration

July 8, 2009 at 3:21 pm (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I am in the process of working on a few chair projects for the shop.  So, this week’s chair love is a compilation of some funky chair makeover inspiration!

“Tie Chair Ala Alabama Chanin,”  by smoothepebble.  I just love these woven tie chairs, especially the ones with the dangling ends!

“Painted Chair,” by kimhas6cats.  So bright!

“Design Sponge Table Chair Redo,” by thirtyeight20.  Awesome fabric choice, and, I love love that ghost table!

“Fav Chair,” by k*8.  Again, great fabric gives this old chair a new life.

“Repurposed Chairs Make Laundry Bench,” by jgrnly.  I have an idea for a bench of chairs, but a bit fancier…

“Chair Project 1, ” by Le Silly.  Collage on a chair can be really funky and unique.

Well, for now I hope this gives everyone some inspiration… I definitely have my wheels turning!

Simple Fix and 4th of July Weekend

July 6, 2009 at 11:33 am (Projects, Tid Bits) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Sometimes the tiniest details of your home can make life so much more organized, easy, and even pretty.  Well, the other day I was very annoyed by my growing collection of costume jewelry.  My good jewelry is hung neatly in my jewelry box and some of my most often worn costume pieces are held in jars in my dresser and vintage medicine cabinet in the bedroom.  But, the rest of it has been hanging in clumps on hangers and hooks in the closet.  You couldn’t see them easily, and you definitely couldn’t grab one easily.  Here is the pile that I hurriedly threw on the bed.

So, my grandma gave me some vintage hand crochetedhangers.  And I picked up a package of sewing pins with bead heads.

Although the pins didn’t stick into the wood hanger underneath very well, they stuck in the ends enough to keep any slippery necklaces from falling off the hanger.  And, viola!  Simple, yet cute and organized.  What an easy fix.  Thanks grandma!

Oh, and if you were wondering why the big bandage on my hand… I burned my hand that night while cooking dinner.  Yes, I think it was a sign from God to quit cooking and get some take-out menus.  But, the sloppy joe’s turned out well, so Tony didn’t buy that.  By the next day I had to go to the doctor for it and my hand was completely wrapped up for the whole holiday weekend.

And, as with most of my projects, the dogs helped of course!

So, on to the 4th of July celebration!  We camped at our local park, and it rained here the entire day (of course).  That didn’t stop us!  We waded through the mud the entire weekend.  It ended up clearing up just in time to have amazing fire works!  Here’s the guys playing in a horseshoe tournament right through the rain!

You can see all the umbrellas out there!  You can also see the river in the background.  That’s the rock river, and right were we camp and also sit and watch the fireworks.  Here we are playing games together.

Our softball team also won another game Sunday, so we are now 6-1!  Yay!

How was your 4th of July?  Hope it was a great one!

Adorable Little Chair

June 10, 2009 at 12:41 pm (Shop Items) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Behold the new addition to the shop (or soon to be):

MCM Chair 1

MCM Chair 2

Isn’t he cute??  I’m not sure if I will remodel this little guy or sell as is.  Any suggestions?  I was thinking black paint and new cushion.  But then again, I love the wood and the teal vinyl.  Hmmm…  Let me know if you have any interest in this oh-so-cute MCM chair (refinished or not) and I will keep you all updated on what I do with it!

I did end up leaving the chair as is after a good cleaning, and  a girl immediately fell in love with it and snatched it up!

More Party Ideas

June 2, 2009 at 11:28 am (Wedding Plans) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

It is still raining here in Illinois, and I am still tired from a busy weekend of graduation parties.  So, we have no progress, no news, no excitement.  But, I have seen a few more party ideas that are inspiring me to be a bit more creative when planning for the upcoming engagement party…

I love when details in party decor match or have the same vibe.  We are going with a lot of red for the party, so not only is this bowl of drinks our color, but it just feels like our style.  We are working on a similar idea.

Ki at Junk Camp made this condiment holder with vintage industrial light cages.  I would love to be able to find enough things to make on of these in time for the party.  Isn’t that adorable!?

Silverware in cans would mean less plastic garbage and an easier way to carry them all outside.  I was also thinking about using our vintage picnic basket.

Galvanized buckets have a charm to them.  These bottles are even pretty!

These last two vintage inspired photos by photographer Philip Harvey are just so pretty.  I love the bright colored chairs under the trees.  This will be more what our space will look like.  The beach scene makes me want to some how hang a canopy over the tables…

Wedding Decisions and Last Minute Changes

May 27, 2009 at 1:37 pm (Wedding Plans) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Well, it’s getting to be that time… the time when we need to start making actual decisions and booking things for the wedding.  We had a plan.  Small church wedding, outdoor reception, simple, vintage, black and white, and elegant.  I had a book full of clippings and notes.  And what happens?  We get a new, completely opposite idea and are making some last minute changes.

We are now contemplating the idea of a destination wedding.  A beach, sand, sun, bright colors.  We are meeting with a travel agent and looking at the possibilities.  It doesn’t sound like what I (thought) I had always wanted.  But, oh, how it does sound amazing.  Maybe it sounds so perfect because it’s what WE want and not what I had imagined as a little girl.  Well…we are pretty serious, although not yet booked, about the idea of a tropical getaway wedding with the closest of family and friends.

So, in my new planning stages I have been searching for new inspiration. I don’t like themes, and cheesey matchy-matchy decor, but would like to have bright, elegant flowers…not sure what else? 🙂  I thought I would share a bit with you:

This peach and teal combo looks so fresh and beach-y.

These centerpieces look beachy and summery, but not too frilly.

Lilies are my favorite flower, and they work well for an island escape wedding.

Red and yellow would be a bright, fun combo of color.

As would teal and yellow!

Yup, I’d have to do this.  Or write my new name for the first time in sand.  Aw.

Any tropical ideas for us?  Suggestions?  I will keep you all updated on what we decide!
