A New Chair Love And Wedding Tid Bits

June 15, 2012 at 9:04 am (Home Changes and Additions) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I fell in love with another chair. That happens often, doesn’t it? My wonderful, loving fiance drove me an hour away to pick the cutie up. Now, we have one more seat in the living room. Best part of this little guy though, is that it would work in just about every room of the house as things evolve.

What do you think?? I’m in love. I love the navy and white stripes, but my favorite part is the nail head trim that goes all the way around the back. I think he is pretty old and was redone with changes to the bottom half and I just adore how they did it! He even has casters, which make it easy to reposition for company. And once the walls are painted I think this will work so well in here.

Also, we have been super swamped with wedding planning. I have made every little detail by hand, and wold love to show you all, but also want them to be a surprise, so that will have to wait! But, I did want to show our framed engagement picture. This will be used at the wedding too, but also will be on the wall in our living room, somewhere! Notice the same feel of the stripes? Not intended, but I love it! I took an old frame and painted it, then roughed it up. The mat was also painted in one of our wedding colors. I think it turned out really well.

I think the two new additions go so nicely together in the living room! And, the rest of the wedding details are coming along too! Can’t wait to share! Only three months from today! 🙂

Wedding Date And Location Set!

July 27, 2009 at 1:46 pm (Wedding Plans) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Its official!  We finally set a date and picked a location!  Are you ready?  Our wedding will be August 28th, 2010, in Negril Jamaica at the Couples resort!  Yay!

After meeting with a travel agent last week we were almost immediately sold on Negril and the Couples resort.  We are now so excited that we wish we could push the date ahead!  How did we decide?  Well, the travel agent loves Negril and told us how amazing and gorgeous it is.  And, who wouldn’t be sold by a few of these pictures!? :

So, what do you think?  These aren’t exact pictures of the Couples resort, just the Negril area.  But, to check out our exact resort, go here: http://www.couples.com/13cn/index.html

The trip includes everything imaginable, from flights, to drinks and food, to sports and massages.  The wedding itself, with a planner, is even free!

My question for all of you is, what colors should we use for the wedding?  I want something more tropical than we had planned before.  I am thinking a teal and yellow or berry pink… or?  Help!

Wax Seals

June 23, 2009 at 7:11 am (Tid Bits, Wedding Plans) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

When we first got engaged I happened to find a W stamp and some silver wax on sale.  Of course I snagged it, but we have yet to use it.  Although I’m not technically a “W” yet, we decided to test out the seal on our thank you’s from our engagement party.  They turned out pretty cool!

Our supplies and our blank thank you notes:

Tony melted the wax for me.  We did a few practice runs, but he started to get it down pat.

W Stamp 007

He said it worked best to slowly swirl the wax stick around while on fire, then as it drips to move the wax into a larger circle.  I then stamped the wax with the seal, and viola!

Simple, but fun and a very cute touch.  We thought we should make this our signature for all of our cards from now on.  And, it was fun to do together!

Our Engagement Party!

June 22, 2009 at 10:29 am (Tid Bits, Wedding Plans) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

We finally had it!  It’s all over, even the cleaning up!  It all went great, and we also wanted to thank everybody for coming and for the great gifts and cards!  And, I have a few pictures to share!

The above is the general view of the backyard before the party.  The picture doesn’t really do it justice.  It was really nice, relaxing, and cozy.  It was impressive for those who had seen our backyard a few months ago when we moved in!

The above is the table before all of the food.  The vintage table clothe came from Fred and Ethels.  The vintage letters are always hanging in our bedroom, and of course we had to have a big diamond!  Isn’t that silverware bucket cute?  My mom found us that.  We also had some big dice (of course!) on the other end.

There were antique Ball jars scattered on the table tops and even in the grass that held candles for lighting up the night.

I love all of the paper lanterns.  These were so easy, they had batteries!  And, they were only a couple of dollars at the dollar store!  They set a nice mood.

And at night everything glowed!

I hope some of these simple, but fun ideas help you with your next party.  I loved them so much that I will use some of them for our casual BBQs and bonfires!

Engagement Pictures

June 2, 2009 at 11:44 am (Tid Bits, Wedding Plans) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

It has been a few months now since we got engaged and we still haven’t taken engagement pictures.  We didn’t set an exact date and we didn’t throw the party since it was winter, so we decided to put it off for a while.  But, now that we are finally having the party we thought it was about time to make the official announcement.  We plan to have a few shots done professionally, but that will still wait a bit longer.  We set up our tripod and camera timer the other night and had fun snapping a bunch of shots.  We thought we would show off the one we picked to go in the local paper:

Now our announcement is also official to all of you out there in blog world as well!

More Party Ideas

June 2, 2009 at 11:28 am (Wedding Plans) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

It is still raining here in Illinois, and I am still tired from a busy weekend of graduation parties.  So, we have no progress, no news, no excitement.  But, I have seen a few more party ideas that are inspiring me to be a bit more creative when planning for the upcoming engagement party…

I love when details in party decor match or have the same vibe.  We are going with a lot of red for the party, so not only is this bowl of drinks our color, but it just feels like our style.  We are working on a similar idea.

Ki at Junk Camp made this condiment holder with vintage industrial light cages.  I would love to be able to find enough things to make on of these in time for the party.  Isn’t that adorable!?

Silverware in cans would mean less plastic garbage and an easier way to carry them all outside.  I was also thinking about using our vintage picnic basket.

Galvanized buckets have a charm to them.  These bottles are even pretty!

These last two vintage inspired photos by photographer Philip Harvey are just so pretty.  I love the bright colored chairs under the trees.  This will be more what our space will look like.  The beach scene makes me want to some how hang a canopy over the tables…

Engagement Party Decor

May 26, 2009 at 3:34 pm (Inspiration, Wedding Plans) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

We are finally ready to throw the long awaited engagement party!!  We have been patiently (or not so much) waiting for good weather and a finished yard in order to throw an outdoor fest.  We now seem to have both (or as good as its going to get).  So, bring on the party!

I have a few simple ideas swirling around in my head, but for some fun inspiration I put together a few photos I’ve spotted.

This idea is so simple and cute.  Although the picture is more fall decor it could easily be summer-y with some sand or shells in the jars!

This scene is so pretty.  We already picked up some red paper lanterns that are perfect to go under our trees around the fire because they are battery operated.

These vintage letters would look neat in our yard showing our initials or wedding date.

I love the colors of this space.  We hope to use some random candle-light as this photo does.

Are you all in the mood for some outdoor time yet?  We will keep you updated with our party pictures- the party is on the 20th of June…

Picking The Colors

January 15, 2009 at 10:40 am (Wedding Plans) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I am so full of wedding ideas right now!  I am trying to weed my way through them slowly, so I thought I would post some of my ponderings here.  If any of you out there have any suggestions, adivce, or pictures to share with me, please! 🙂

A small run down of a few of the important things we have been considering so far:

We would like the weather to be warm, not scalding, so we were considering a late August wedding, which probably means August 2010.  We are having a small ceremony at the church I grew up going to.  We would love to have a large reception with all of our friends and family.  We are on a very small budget, which means we are doing most everything ourselves.  This also led us to the idea of having our reception outside.  Our three possibilities so far are my mother’s backyard where I grew up, our county fairgrounds where Tony says he first knew he loved me (sentimental!), or a hangar at the airpark down the road from my childhood home.  I also know we do NOT want a themed wedding, but will probably take influences from vintage themes, such as the 30’s and 40’s.

Now, my first question up for help is the colors.  We want black and white.  Elegant, yet simple, especially if we are outdoors.  But, I would like an accent color.  My two favorite ideas with black and white are red or dark teal.  I love them both.  So, here are a couple pictures for inspiration, and let me know what you think!!

Here is a black and white wedding that was also outdoors. http://snippetandink.blogspot.com/2009/01/board-329-white-barn-black.html

These are just some black and white examples.  Ours wouldn’t be quite as barnyard casual.

Here are some examples with red as an accent color. http://justjaime28.wordpress.com/2008/09/07/a-black-white-red-wedding-shower/

This set is a little too fancy for our outdoor setting, but it does show how well red would work with black and white and that damask that we love.

//www.neckties.com/teal_by_elite_solid_teal_tie.apml

I couldn't find pictures where people actually used teal, but here is a tie. http://www.neckties.com/teal_by_elite_solid_teal_tie.apml

I think that the teal color could add to the vintage-y vibe we are looking for.

If we used teal, we might be able to incorporate peacock feathers into our flowers and centerpieces.

I was hoping to use some feathers, even in white, such as in my hair, but, was inspired when I saw this gorgeous picture.

What do you think?  Love it?  Hate it?  Change it up somehow?  Help me out here!? 🙂

A Toast

January 13, 2009 at 9:27 am (Wedding Plans) (, , , , , , , , )

After we finished telling all of our family and friends of the engagement yesterday, we went to Tony’s parents’ house to show them the ring.  They had champagne and two very cute champagne glasses waiting for us!  We toasted, talked and celebrated…blog-pics-10-008

blog-pics-10-009

I am so excited to be welcomed into this family!  Thank you so much to my parents-in-law-to-be!

P.S. We do not know much about the champagn glasses.  They say David Douglas on the bottom, but I could not find any info on them.  The black area is ribbed and feels almost like an old record.  There is also a piece in the bottom that turns and says On/Off.  We have no clue!

Fat Rock!

January 12, 2009 at 12:09 pm (Wedding Plans) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Yes, its true!  I’m engaged!  Tony proposed to me last night.  It was so unexpected, and so sweet.  We do not yet have an exact date, but are considering late August in 2010.  I told myself not to get too excited, and to hold off on the planning, but that really isn’t going to happen.  I have already been writing down ideas and scouring the blog world.  We are considering a black and white color scheme, with either dark teal or red accents.  I would also love to do a vintage touch (doesn’t that sound like us!?).  I, of course, will continue to blog on our home and decor ideas and projects, but there might be some random wedding ideas here too!  Fill me in on any ideas!  Here is a picture of the ring.

Its a vintage square diamond turned on an angle. Pictures don't do it justice- its gorgeous!
