Another Chair Love

February 25, 2009 at 10:41 am (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

This week’s chair love is a bit unusual.  And very overpriced.  Yves Saint Laurent’s art collect was auctioned off this week.  This chair from the personal collection sold for $28 million!

The chair is called the ‘Dragons’ armchair and is from 1917-1919.  For more information about the history of this amazing chair/piece of art check out the Christie’s website link above.

Gorgeous is all I can say.  What do you think?

Current Chair Love

February 20, 2009 at 10:44 am (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

This weeks chair love:

This guy is so ugly that its cute.  I think if it were reupholstered in a fun modern material, the shape could be really fun a a living room or even as a side seat in a large bedroom.  Maybe do away with the squiggly stitching?

This seat was found on Ebay and is described as a vintage retro mid century circle chair, love seat, or sofa.

I think it has strange potential…

Homemade Fortune Cookies

February 16, 2009 at 10:18 am (Tid Bits) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I read on-line how to make my very own homemade fortune cookies recently.  I thought this would make a cute, personalized gift for Tony for Valentine’s Day.  They turned out pretty well, so I thought I would share this little recipe with you.

You will need:

  • 1 Egg
  • 1/4 Cup Sugar
  • 2 1/2 Tablespoons Butter
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 2/3 Cups Flour
  • 1/2 Cup Milk

Start by making 20 paper strips with fortunes or messages written on them.  Then:

  • Cream together egg and sugar.
  • Beat in butter and vanilla.
  • Mix flour and baking powder together and pour into mixture.  Mix.
  • Beat in milk.
  • Heat nonstick pan on medium-low.
  • Drop a spoonful or batter onto pan and form into a circle.
  • Cook until lightly brown, about 30 seconds.
  • Flip with spatula and cook another 5 to 10 seconds.
  • Lift cookie and insert fortune with first cooked side on the outside, and fold in half, and hang over a rim or edge of a glass.
  • When cookies are cooled, lay on cookie sheet and bake at 250 for 15-18 minutes.
Here I am in the process. Some of the cookies are hanging on the edge of the bowl. This is a very good technique for forming the cookies!

Overall, the recipe worked very well.  The cookies were still a bit soft, however.  But, they tasted good.  I think that this is one of those things where you get better with practice.  My first cookies were too small and got a little too brown, but by the end they looked like real fortune cookies, as you can see here:

Tony thought they were great and he loved the sweet messages I wrote.

This week I have been a little sick, making me a little absent, but I am pining for a new chair.  I had to share it with you.  Its the Marais AC chair from DWR.  Industrial.  Colorful.  Perfection!

Here is it in red:

I think these are just gorgeous!  I would love either color.  Or silver metal…

Oh, the possibilities!

Something I Love

February 3, 2009 at 4:37 pm (Scrap-booking) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Through my many recent projects I have found a product that I love.  Undo Adhesive Remover!  This stuff is amazing.  I started using it while scrap-booking.  You stick a sticker to a page and realize that you want to move it.  No problem for Undo.  It not only removes the sticker with no harm to the paper or the sticker, but it also brings the sticker back to it’s original stickiness when it dries!  I have also used this to un-peal photos and other papers that I have stuck down with glue.

After using and loving this product on my scrap-book, I decided that it was worth a shot on other projects as well.  Yes, it can safely un-stick stamps, labels, and even gunk.  The possibilities are endless!  My next project involves a very pretty bottle of liqueur that I would like to remove the label from.  I want to leave the label in good condition to use for something, and also have the bottle sticky-free for use for something.  No problem for Undo, I’m sure.

I highly recommend for every do-it-yourself-er!

More Chair Love

January 29, 2009 at 9:56 am (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

This weeks chair love:  a recent find of Apartment Therapy reader Alex.  Alex found this chair and is now asking the Apartment Therapy readers to help him identify it.  Some of the readers think it might be a Gastone Rinaldi chair from the 70’s, worth quite a but of money if it is genuine.  To me, money or no, it is really cute.  I think it could be even cuter with some new funky fabric or leather cushions (which is what Alex is thinking about doing).

If you know anything more about the chair or it’s style, check out the post and let Alex know the scoop.  Otherwise, if you are like me, just sit there and drool away.

Little Christmas Shelf

January 22, 2009 at 9:32 am (Home Changes and Additions) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

For Christmas, my Secret Santa (my sister-in-law-to-be, Jess) got me the cutest little shelf.  We have been debating where to hang it since then!  After we arranged some things the other day, we found the perfect place in the living room.  The colors match perfectly!  She also got me the little diamond studded candle and the LOVE sign that are sitting on the shelf.  It was just so adorable I had to post it.  Take a look!

I know its dark, but this is the shelf hung in the corner of the living room behind the Eames lounger.

Chair Love For This Week

January 14, 2009 at 8:06 pm (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

The chair obsession continues this week. My latest chair love goes out to this guy: The Egg Chair.  Arne Jacobsen designed this chair over 50 years ago.  The egg chair was unique when it was first designed, but the 50th anniversary chair with chocolate suede and leather is gorgeous!  The picture and much more information came from here: http://the-egg-chair.com

Chair Love

January 7, 2009 at 4:40 pm (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I love chairs.  Tony says that I have a strange chair obsession.  Its true.  I would collect chairs if space would provide.  I have even thought about hanging them on walls like art in order to accomodate my passion.  But, for now I will post about the chairs I am drooling over.  This is my latest love (since I finally aquired my Plycraft lounge and ottoman;)

Here is a vintage Barcelona chair and ottoman:

This chair was designed by Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe in 1929.  Drool… I also love it in cream!
