Engagement Party Decor

May 26, 2009 at 3:34 pm (Inspiration, Wedding Plans) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

We are finally ready to throw the long awaited engagement party!!  We have been patiently (or not so much) waiting for good weather and a finished yard in order to throw an outdoor fest.  We now seem to have both (or as good as its going to get).  So, bring on the party!

I have a few simple ideas swirling around in my head, but for some fun inspiration I put together a few photos I’ve spotted.

This idea is so simple and cute.  Although the picture is more fall decor it could easily be summer-y with some sand or shells in the jars!

This scene is so pretty.  We already picked up some red paper lanterns that are perfect to go under our trees around the fire because they are battery operated.

These vintage letters would look neat in our yard showing our initials or wedding date.

I love the colors of this space.  We hope to use some random candle-light as this photo does.

Are you all in the mood for some outdoor time yet?  We will keep you updated with our party pictures- the party is on the 20th of June…

What an improvement, don’t you think!?  It is all coming together so nicely.  We do have a few more projects in the works.  See that vent pipe above the stove?  That is getting boxed in, no more tacky-ness.  We also have a great set of lights that are being installed which I will reveal later.  A few creative touches are in the process as well.

Notice the old microwave is gone and a hood was installed in its palce as well…countertops 002

Fishy Fishy

May 4, 2009 at 8:36 am (Tid Bits) (, , , , , , , , , , )

No cleaning, no housework, no projects.  We went fishin’!  Summer is finally here, so although this isn’t decor related, I thought I would share our fishin trip with you.  I caught this pretty Sheep Head guy.  And Tony caught this bity bull head.  He caught two of those tiny babies, but my fish definitely won me bragging rights for the week 😉

My fish.

My fish.

Tony's fish.

We packed a lunch and spent the entire day catching some sun (not many fish) and enjoying the peace of being at the canal.  It was a great day.  Now back to the work-week.  Hope you had a great weekend, too!

Here are a few of our first big items for sale in the new shop.  There are a few others in the works that needed face-lifts, but these beauties were great as-is.  Let me know if you are interested, although these are awful large to ship.  Mid Century lovers should swoon for them!

The cute little fiberglass chair is a gorgeous robin’s egg blue.  It says Krueger Metal Products, Green bay Wisconsin on its tag.  The hutch is gorgeous and spacious.  It has two shelves behind the glass door, two cupboards below, and three drawers, one of which has dividers.  The oval details on the doors are really cool.  The tag says Gibson Furniture Co.

Let me know if you are interested! 🙂  And, stay tuned, there should be a MCM coffee table and a funky table and chairs by the end of the week as I get them cleaned up!

Kitchen Cabinets!

April 21, 2009 at 7:33 am (Home Changes and Additions, Projects) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

They are done.  Yes, they are done!  I love love it!  Remember, as you look at the pictures, though, that the old white on white counter-tops look won’t last long.  We will be getting the new dark counter-tops in a few weeks.  Also,  notice the new cabinet in between the stove and the fridge- now the dog food can be hidden!  (It will also get a counter-top!)  A before to freshen your memory:

Well?  What do you think?  I think it feels so nice and new and clean in there!  Remember, things will keep changing for a while.  In addition to new counter-tops there will be a hood where the old microwave is, and the cabinet above the fridge will change.  We also have a few more projects for in here… like new lights and something to do with antique rolling pins… so let me know what you think, and stay tuned!

Bit Of Chair Love

April 15, 2009 at 9:58 am (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I happened upon this super cute chair on the blog Purple Area.  It would make an adorable desk or side chair.  I just love the black color and the curved back.

I even like the purple wall here.  This would be adorable in a little girl’s room… or even a grown up girl’s room!

Chair Love Some More

March 31, 2009 at 8:02 am (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

This weeks chair love comes early!  I spotted this beauty on Apartment Therapy earlier in the week.  The picture is of the store front of the Pico Modern Furniture shop.  What a pretty place!  And, great taste in chairs, I might add.

The shop is described as unique and unusual.  I love it already!  And, I want the chair! 🙂

Chandelier For The Porch

March 24, 2009 at 8:12 am (Projects) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Here it is.  This is the fancy project I completely with the ugly, little, pink basket.

Here is the before picture:

Here is what I made:

I took a 75cent basket from the Salvation Army and spray painted it black.  I hung crystals and beads on it and added a length of chain.  I added some mini candles in jars and viola!  We now have a chandelier above the ice cream table on the porch!  I found this idea on Apartment Therapy and think its super cute.  What do you think?

New Old Shade

February 27, 2009 at 10:28 am (Projects) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Its official. I am sick of our curtains. All of them. Every room. I knew they were bad from the day we moved in, but now I am at my breaking point. So, on my day off yesterday I did some work and started plunging into our curtain situation.

I thought I would start off small. There was no shade over the large window in our kitchen door. Our neighbors could see right in! I decided to take the old white roller shade from the dining room door (since it also has a curtain) and refinish it to go in the kitchen. I wanted to stick with the black and white theme. I used some swirly scrap-book stencils I had and a paint pen ($3 at Wal-Mart). I laid the stencils out where I liked them, traced, and colored in. Now, viola!

What a simple , inexpensive project with such great results! This weekend I plan to get some black material and sew a valance at the top, as well as simple black curtains to replace the strawberry ones in the kitchen window. Then on to the rest of the house…

P.S. Yes, there is a cute in the shade. The landlord has mis-cut part of the shade. I didn’t want to try out my new paint idea on a new shade and ruin it. We like it well enough that I will soon go through the time and effort to reproduce this on a new shade!

Making A Mini Bar

February 4, 2009 at 11:48 am (Inspiration) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Currently we hold all of our drink glasses, servers, shakers and wine and liqueurs in one of our kitchen cupboards.  But, I have always wanted to do something different with these items.  I would like to have some sort of mini bar in the kitchen or dining room.  This would be such easy access for entertaining.  Also, it would free up more cupboard space in the kitchen, which for us is at a premium!

I have recently seen a few photos of DIY bars and am in planning process for making one of our own.

This redone shelf unit was posted on Apartment Therapy.  I think this is great inspiration for our project.  A simple shelf unit like this would be easy to find and probably affordable.  I really love the wine racks and glass holders.  I also like the idea of lining the backs of cabinets with colorful ,fun paper.  Here is another picture of a mini bar with beautiful paper:

I also like the idea of using a bar cart or serving tray with a few bottles and glasses, but options like the cabinets in the pictures would give us much more space and probably be safer with pets, especially if there are doors.

I am very excited to get started on this project, and will keep you posted!
